Control Arms/Timing Belt
My question is are these jobs fairly easy to DIY? I need to replace the lower front control arms and the timing belt. Wa looking at the kit from ECS tuning. Is there a cheaper place to go for them? Also, what tools will I need for the jobs? Thanks for the help.
search for timing belt DIY. it takes time and tools but can be DIY depending on how mechanically inclined you are. not that I would know cause I would never attempt it but thats what i've heard by reading/searchiing.
Timing belt difficulty: probably a 7/10
Control arms difficulty : 7/10
Oil change: 2/10
timing belt is not too bad, just takes a lot of time to take everything apart and get to it. Once you do, its not to hard to change it, just need to take your time and be careful, and check everything over good.
I say go for it if you are handy with a wrench, you don't really need special tools other than a small swivel socket. (depends on your year /model).
May of us on this forum have done it and can give advice if you get stuck somewhere. Just get one of the write-ups form audiworld, and read it over. If you feel comfortable with the write up on it, then you will have no problem doing it.
It took me a total of about 12 hrs on mine, probably slower than most. I spent extra time making sure all the cams were aligned because my belt had jumped a bit.
