Holy jeebus, stock turbo with revo hits 17 PSI? I've honestly never popped my hood immediately after a hard drive... because I have an in town drive to get to where I park. I don't often drive my car hard through town.

But, I guess, my strongest point, was that the cost of the turbo is minute, in my eyes, compared to the hassles of letting it idle every drive. After hard drives, if you're parking immediately after, then sure, I'd do it.

Obviously my philosophy doesn't apply to you big turbo guys.

But, notice that old volvo's and even our cars turbo's can go a terribly long time in the hands of a non-informed driver... I'd wager that 99% of 1.8T owners do NOT let their car's idle after driving... and when you see some old dude selling a 97 1.8T with 170K on it, with stock turbo... you think he's let it idle?

But yes, again, big turbo would likely change everything for me.

Well I have opened my hood right after parking, but never after driving HARD. That was sort of my point, though... is that in my normal driving before turning off, the turbo is not red hot.

I think that everyone that thinks they need to let their car run should just buy a bigger turbo.....to give them a reason to let their car run....lol....jk

I peak routinely at 20+ psi on my GTI with the stock (K03s) turbo with Revo set to the middle to of the boost range, so that's why I think I'm hitting at least 18 psi and maybe higher. But, I think a big turbo would be less prone to heat up the way the small K03s does. And, when mine was glowing, it wasn't after a hard run, just a half mile up hill drive. You can boost high when under load without racing. It's the high boost that generates the heat.

Yeah, I know you can load it up without even MOVING... so obviously climbing a hill is making the engine work harder, and the turbo is in turn working harder.

Just wanna come admit that I was wrong, and you all knowing doods were right.

I had had the cruise set at about 70 mph for about 45 minutes... on level highway... I pulled off the highway, straight into a gas station -- one of those situations where I shut my car off right away. The cruise was set, so load was minimal... just cause I said I would, I checked the turbo out. It was indeed glowing slightly.

I bow to your greatness.

I'm still not gonna let it idle, though [8D]

Personally, after a good hard romping...my turbo looks like a damn christmas light, except a-hell of a lot hotter. and i hear it doesnt matter how long you let it idle for, even when the bastard is red hot ...all's you need is a 30 second cool down, any where after that is show. and around 8 seconds on a non drive-it-like-you-stole-it run....i.e every day driving.....constantly under 3k shifts.

just my .02 on the cool down.
