Default Cooling system

i have a 99 A4 1.8T and i constantly (every few weeks) have to add coolent to the tank, is it a leak or is my engine burning it off? i bought my car used with a NEW engine installed from a trusted family friend....and im a NOOB to the audi world

check to see if there are coolant puddles under your car after parking it for a few minutes, or let your engine idle and stick your head into the engine bay, if you hear a hissing (not the turbo), then its leaking coolant... check all of your coolant hoses and the connections, that's usually the most likely suspect. Especially since a new engine was just installed, if he reused some of the hose clamps that could be the culprit.

ok thanks, ive checked for puddles, and that wasnt happening so im guessing its leaking in the lines somewhere

if you dont see any leaks on the ground, its most likely the coolant flange. check at the back of the block and look down at the tranny. if you see any pink/white trails running down the back of the engine or any water marks on the top of the tranny. if there is, then its the coolant flange.
