daytime running lights on b5
okay, i know there has been some interest here before with some people wanting to have their headlights automatically come on when they start their car, sooooo

i followed that diy write up in order to do the independant fog light mod, and just for kicks i decided to see what would happen if i didnt cut the pins off
if you look at the pics on that diy you see the pins that need to be cuto off or soldered together
i cut off pin 12, and soldered the others together as shown
with pin 15 still attached, i plugged it back in and turned the key on, and the fogs came on along with the low beams, as soon as i turned my high beams on (without headlight switch being on, just controlled by fog switch) , the lows and fogs went out, and just left the highs on
i then cut off pin 15, and left only pin 17 left from original mod, this time, i started the car, and the low beams automatically came on (this is how you would have daytime running lights, on non canadian cars)
hope this helps someone, i contiued to cut off pin 17, because i like the ability to turn off my lights completly while car is on (good for pulling into driveways without waking people up)
recap
pin 15 and 17 , not really good for anything
pin 17 , daytime running lights/ ability to controll fogs anytime key is on
pins 12 15 and 17 all cut off, your basic run of the mill independant fog light mod

my car is a US car, but the guy I bought it off of had it converted to have daytime running lights because it's mandatory here in canada. the daytime runners are not the low beams though, but the fogs. I like it that way, because I can run just the marker lights with the fogs, it looks great.
but don't day time running lights use a lower wattage, which saves the bulb's life? i don't know if i'd be so quick to use my aftermarket bulbs at 100% of their power for so long, considering they were fairly pricey.
