Deep rumbling noise from rear of 2006 A4 Avant
Hi all,
My 2006 A4 Avant Quattro AT6 2.0T now has 5000 miles on it. I really love this car. It has ONE problem that bothers me:
Whenever I am at a steady freeway speed, I hear a very noticable deep harmonic rumble from the rear of the car. It is of course quite difficult to describe this sound in text only, but humor me for a second and try to imagine the sound of a loud neighbor playing a movie, and having the sound up way high. The sound you would hear through the walls are a deep and muffled bass.
The rumbling I have in the rear of my car is similar: It is a deep, muffled rumble, It seems to oscilate every 3 - 4 seconds. It's a "whooom whooom whooom whoom" type sound.
It seems to be present no matter if the car is cold or warm. It only happens at stable freeway speeds.
Did this description make sense? Any clues what could,be causing this? -The car is otherwise real quiet and nice.
I should add that when I first got the car, it had a slight imbalance in the rear wheels. The dealer took care of this.
Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions.

Yeah, the previous imbalance of the rear wheel could have cause premature wear on the wheel bearing.
Or it is possible that the imbalance has caused improper tire wear and you are simply hearing tire noise.
I had awful tire noise after I drove a while on an out-of-balance tire.
