Default diverter valves after GIAC chip?

Hey Guys,
I found an authorised dealer not too far from home and they will install the GIAC chip for total of $450 (400 chip + 50 labor). Is that decent? He said since mine is a 97 he needs to do some extra ****...i cant do it mself as pnp.

Also, I am going to go to the vw dealership and get the 710N or someone on the forums is also selling a high performance one. Will it matter if I do the valve like next week or something? I might not get time to go it this week or should I do that first?

If I pay the guy how much should labor we to snap on the diverter valves? Anyone have a DIY on it?

Thanks,
Q

the deal sounds good for the chip. its usually an hr of labor required ( i payed an extra 89 for that in CT ).

As for the 710N, it takes less than 30 min. to install. I know my Bailey one came w/ instructions and a lot of photos on how to do it. the only thing is- you need to be able to jack the car up, w/ a lift preferably. i gave the guy at my shop $20 to do it during his lunch break.

the valve will usually fail within anywhere from a month or two from time of install. no big deal if you do it the following week. unless you are gonna go on the track that whole week or something. someone correct me if i'm wrong. you should be fine if you do it the week after.

Yeah, it can even last much longer... my car had been chipped for about 35K miles before I bought it... when I had it, I installed a 710N, and although there was a slight improvement... the key word is 'slight'. The old stocker was holding up pretty well, obviously.

so would a higher performance (stratosphere?) valve give me more performance then a 710N assuming I am only chipping and not doing any turbo upgrades?

Nope. The 710N is fine.

In fact... thinking about it now... eventually, wouldnt a spring that's too stiff end up being counter productive? If you didnt have the boost that would require it I mean?
