Do I really have to remove alternator for starter replacement on A4 1996?
A new owner of A4 1996,B52.8manual, got it with 93,000 miles on the clock. One of the main issues of the car is a dead starter, about to do DIY on the starter replacement. Did starter replacement with other cars before, according to the previous owner I have to remove the alternator to remove or give way for the starter. Is it really done that way or any better suggestions for more easy approach. I've searched the board and didn't find specific answer for my concern.Thanksin advance!
Unless you got small hands and a lift you probably will have to remove the alt. But to remove the alt the front end will have to come off.
Change the starter over the weekend and had to pull the alternator down in order to remove it. Actually had to remove the auxilliary fan to give way for the upper bolt of the alternator. It's my first time to work on Audis and really everything is so tight in space and precisely installed. Car is working great right now, Thanks again!
