I still say its impossible to walk up to an A4 and do the full TB change (idler pulley, tensioner, thermostat, water pump, all belts ect.) without removing anything from the front of the car. Its just physically impossible to get the tools into the area to work if you do not at least remove the bumper and put the carrier in the service position. Can I get some other people that have done the job to chime in here.

^Its been done man... You might be surprised to see all the 90 degree tools some mechanics use to cut corners (and their knuckles).

If you say so......I had to remove my AC tensioner pulley off the front and I could barely fit a 6mm allen wrench in there - no idea how you would fit a the rest of the tools up in there. I guess I'll let this one go at - save yourself some bloody knuckles and do it the right(Audi service procedure) way.

Ya i had a hard time believing it too. I agree that taking the front end off is easier and less of a hassle even though it might take longer.

It is easier to take the front into service position and most mechanics at my dealership including me put it into service to do the TB, But there are a few old timer audi techs there that can do a TB on a 1.8T in about 20 minutes not taking any thing off its rediculous, im trying to get them to teach me how.

It depends on what year A4 and what your changing, if just the timing belt the average time is 4 hours.
