Door Problem
I have a 1999 A4 and never had a single problem, until now. I was at the gas station and when I opened the door, I heard a click (pop?) that I had never heard before. The door opens without any problems, but the inside handle does not sit inside the cup like the other ones in the car. I did not notice it before, and maybe it was always like that but since I heard the noise I took a closer look. Is there a spring or some sort of mechanism that holds it close to the door that could have broken? Does anyone know where I could get parts to fix this? I am totally new to audi and am unsure of any parts sites or local dealers for parts other then the dealer. Any help would be appreciated.
What does the handle do when you close the door? There is a spring on that handle that should return it to a flush possition in that little "cup". I'd check with the dealer to see what they think needs to be done. Of course don't have it done there, but at least you'll know what you need to do. Make sure they include part numbers in the estimate. There are plenty of parts places on-line, here's one I've used before.

There is also a small clip that keeps the cable in position. If that has released then the cable could be hanging and altering the position of the handle. Take off the door panel and take a look. Do a search on AW for remove door panel and you will see how to do it. Quite simple, and all the parts behind it are very elementary, easy to see the problem.
Forgive my Dumbness, But AW is audi world? Is that the main site for info on these cars? the Silver part of the handle just does not sit flush in the cup like the other ones in the car, the handle also feels like it is always "primed" I do not have to pull it as far to open the door. I will check the sites and see more info. I do not like to go to the dealer as they are not always the ones who know or like the cars they work on, I am trying to find a local guy who knows these cars. I had one with my bmw and hope to find one for this car.
