Sorry to bring back an old thread but I'm about to get the same ECS magnetic plug but I'm not sure which one to get. Large or small? Its a 2001 A4 1.8T with the AWM motor.

the only way to know is call an audi dealership with your vin # or get under the car and check for yourself. the dealership always gives me the small one when i say its a 98 but i have the larger one. and just so ya'll know the ecs magnetic drain plug is made of a soft metal and you will end up stripping it quite easily. Issam from 034 made a couple magnetic drain plugs made from stainless steel and they work much better. but he only has the bigger version.
