Wrong there. And a very prominent myth that you have to actually do something to copyright your own work.
Any pic you take, painting you paint, poem you write... IS copyrighted, as soon as you take/paint/write it - you don't have to send in anything to anyone to have your picture copyrighted. If you took it, its your property (as long as its not a picture of copyrighted material... lol... In other words I can't go take a picture of the McDonalds arches and put them on my coffee cups that I use to sell my coffee) However McDonalds could not use that picture I took of the arches either - not without my permission.

The law is odd... but the law is written down so you can always figure it out with enough coffee.

Who has the earlier timestamp on the image file?
In any case, these cases are not cut and dry and a judge can usually tell when a person is trying to illegally claim something as their own. **** just doesnt add up usually.
