Default Ecu question.

Its been a while since I have been on here... anyways. Im looking to get a chipped ECU but its from a 1999.5 B5 and mine is a 2000. Of course the ECU has a different code as well... just curious is this would work on my A4. The person claims it would.

I thought the 1999.5 was DRIVE BY WIRE and the 1999 was non dbw... i mean, why else would they have a 1999.5 model? So that guy was full of it?

1999.5 = non drive by wire
00-00.5 = drive by wire

There are plenty of half year models. Well actually there are NO half year models according to Audi. There are only minor modifications made halfway through a production year. You don't go to a dealer and by a "1999.5".

on the pre 2000 A4's, the throttle body was controled by a cable connecting the gas peddle to TB. On the Drive by wire cars, there is no physical cable, the throttle is controlled electronically - "wire".

It basically takes information from the position of your gas pedal and controls timing, boost and the throttle electronically.
