Default Engine Noise with Sound

hey everyone
Latest problem i got is a wierd noise coming from the front of the engine, it use to be there but minor and now its has become worse, i think whatever it is its on its way out.
I attached a sound clip.
Little descrition.
I'm coming back from a quick drive around the neighbour too see if it goes away after car gets warmed ( car is now at normal driving tempt). Bascially when i get back into the garage i rolled down the windows, stuck my arm out while hood was closed. First 7 seconds or so of the clip im just in drive but at a complete stop, after that i put it into neutral as you can see the noise stops. then into reverse after 3 seconds, sounds back. then finally into park noise stops and i turned it off the recording. so whatever the problem is its only happening when im in a moving gear and only sounds normal when im in park or neutral.

The noise does start to settle down after car gets warm but still very loud.

I also attached a second clip where its the recorded right in the engine bay hood open while in drive.

Hopefully someone can tell me what it is its getting very annoying and would like to fix it.

Also its a 1998 A4 1.8T Tiptronic, only has Giac chip, 710DV, 3inch exhaust.

I am assuming you are talking about the ticking noise?

yeah the major ticking now, i dont think its from the engine, but the belts fan alternator, i was hopeing someone had the same problem and knows exactly what it is. I know the audio quality wasn't that great.

My car ticks all the time but it's just the valve train and injectors ticking along. i don't have any problems with it. But I am not sure what your problem is since it goes away when your not in gear.

you think it could be one of the belts or even the fan. i dont know much about engines but when searching on the site only thing i could think of was the tensioner spring failing and maybe thats causing all the noise.
