Default Engine Problem?

I'm not 100% sure on how to describe the problem that my 99.5 1.8 A4 is having but here goes:

I was driving in 4th gear and at about 2500 rpms the engine made a weird noise (sounded like air being released) and the car started jerking. I pulled into a parking spot turned the car off and back on again, the engine shakes and tries to idle the car at 900-1000rpms but has difficulty. If I leave it on for about 30secs - 1min the engine shuts off...no CEL light yet. I had my coil packs changed recently but thats about it, checked the oil level and that seemed fine too, although I do need an oil change. Any ideas of what it could be?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Boost leak? Check to see that all the hoses are tight and get the codes read. There should be lots of them.

Default RE: Engine Problem?

The person that I bought the car from said they got the timing belt replaced around 65K. The car has 118K on it right now. Should I try to drive the car to my mechanic or tow it? Just strapped for cash right now and towing is pretty expensive around here...
