Default Engine Swap

Hello ladies and gents. I am wanting to start on a engine and transmission swap for my 97 2.8L quattro and i thought it would be nice to get some input from the good people on Audi forum.
Any ideas on what engine and tranny would fit best on the b5 platform?

i was thinking the 99.5 1.8t or the 97 s4 engine, either one with the 1.8t (stage 2) transmission. Figured if i should get the upgraded transmission to save cost after adding power in the furture

are you talking engine code?

the 99.5 would be an aeb, not sure on the 2.7

if you have one of the engines it wouldn't be that bad of a deal, but if you are having to buy stuff it will get quite costly

you'd be better off buying a 2.8 shortblock to replace the one in there if the one in there is bad

if you just want a project, sell the 2.8 and buy a 1.8 or s4

I think for the cost you would just buy a new car.... IMO.

In a 15 year old car yeah, pick up an identical engine and put it in, or replace the car. I would only do a conversion if an entire parts car could be found cheap to supply everything, and if you have plenty of time, tools, and know-how.
