besides they are two different tones. turbo is high pitched exhaust is a low tone you should be able to hear both unless your exhaust is extremely loud

You should still be able to faintly hear the turbo. If your wondering if people on the outside can hear your turbo, i would recommend going with an after market intake. like HKS or EVOM. this will make your turbo loud enough for the whole world to hear. And it depends on what exhaust your running. if your running an exhaust that uses its muffler to make the exhasut loud (like the HKS, Greddy, and all the other ricer companies that make exhasut for the a4) then you will only here the farting noise. if you use a audi specific exhaust (Remus, some other people) then your "turbo-exhaust-noise" will be the same. If your running a low restriction exhaust (like with gutted cats or a glasspack or similar) it will greatly increase the turbo noise coming from your exhaust.

With a stock turbo, it will be difficut to hear the turbo, no matter if you have an exaust or not.
You will hear a faint shrill, but thats it... diff exausts will give diff sounds out the rear, but it will not affect the sound that your turbo gives (unless you run an open flow exaust - but even then its not a massive turbo sound).

Your turbo sound is basically the air running through your bearing-run spool... Very little in the world of exausts will affect that above passive levels.
