Default Exhaust question

Whats the diameter of the stock exhaust on a 1.8t, and what do most aftermarket exhaust run in diameter?

On the B5, I believe it is 1.75 inches. Borla is 2.25 inches.

For those of you who remember your rheology, the resistance of a tube is related to the 3rd power of the radius. That means that small differences in radius have huge effects on resistance.

I didn't find what A4 you had but I read elsewhere running a 2.5" to dual 2.25" was a good setup for a B6. I also tried finding the diameter for a B6 (quattro manual) Borla exhaust on their site but the closest I came was the installation instructions showing a 2" clamp. I swear it's a 2.25" like david9999 says on the B5 but don't know. If it isn't, I'm going with the Neuspeed 60mm (~2.36").

Here's an interesting excerpt from overboost.com:

Turbo cars typically have a larger number of exhausts to choose from, allowing you to pick an exhaust with a pipe diameter that best matches your turbo combination. Usually, cars making under 280 horsepower will use 60-millimeter piping, cars 280-350 horsepower will use 70-millimeter piping, and cars 350 horsepower and over will using 75-millimeter piping and larger. Of course, that's just a rough guideline because some cars will "like" larger pipes and some will like smaller pipes. For instance, cars with small turbos will also prefer a smaller pipe, no more than 60-millimeters.
I would have to say "small turbo" = K03, our stock turbo. If you plan to go BT, perhaps a 2.5" minimum diameter is wise?
