You would get a better answer from a 1.8t owner but I would guess that it could fit with some moding. The drop down list starts at 1999. I am not sure but I think there is some motor changes from 1998-1999 in the 1.8T and as far as I know most bolt on systems are pretty touchy about what you try to bolt them on to.

You might be better off just getting a universal Borla rear muffler, taking it to a muffler shop, forking out the 200 or so bucks and having them build you a custom setup.

Just my .03 cents is all.

Enjoy,

I have the same car with the exact same question. I looked on the Borla site and it shows that it fits a 1998 with a
VIN # B AEB. But I don't know what that means and the Borla sales guy didn't really know either. Have you looked at
any other systems? I talked to the guys at "hop up" and it sounds like they aren't too big into customer service. They're return
policy is: if you open the box, you can't return it. If you don't open the box, you can return it for a 30% restocking fee.

AEB is your engine code. Take off the plastic cover over your engine (takes like 30 seconds) and look on the corner, cant remember which corner... but you'll have a code etched into it... AEB, is the one you're hoping for, if you want borla. I have ATW (which was 2000 only), and there are others...

It's actually not all that loud with no mufflers at all. The turbo keeps it from being all that loud.
