Extended Warranty Purchase
I'm about to purchase a 2001 Avant, 31k miles, from a reputable used car dealer who has located an end of lease trade-in. Car appears in great shape and runs well.
An aftermarket bumper to bumper warranty to 100k miles is available for $2800. Limited coverage options are available for less money.
I know I'll have the remainder of the factory warranty available, to 50k miles. The local Audi dealer has told me the extended factory warranty is available only if I purchase an Audi Certified Used Car from an Audi dealer.
I maintain my cars well, but I intend to do some track events and high performance driving. What worries me is the potential for expensive repairs, either mechanical or electrical, over the course of ownership.
Can I have some input on whether the $2800 extended warranty is a worthwhile option?
Thanks

The warranty is only as good as the company that issues it.
That said, 100K bumper to bumper is pretty good, if the deductable isn't high.
However, the warranty will likely be voided if you track or modify the car. For instance, if you change the suspension, don't expect the warranty to cover anything to do with suspension, bearings, steering or control arms.
If you change the turbo don't expect to be covered for boost related issues. It is hard enough to get aftermarket warranties to pay up on a non-modified car.
