Default Feedback on A4 Quattro 1.8t?

Our daughter is looking for a new Audi, but price is a big factor. She is considering the A4 Quattro 1.8t. Anyone have any feedback on this car? Performance? Mileage? Reliability? Brakes? Any other issues?

I saw a reference to problems with cam chain tensioner in 2002. Has that been fixed?

Would a V6 model be a better choice and worth paying more for?

i have 2002 audi a4 1.8t quattro and the car is decent but i guess slow, , the gas miles is avaege as long u dont have a heavy foot, the brakes seem to fade to fast for me but good stopping power, and reliablity is the car is only a reliable as its owner, if u take care of it it will take care of u, and here did u here about the cam chain tensioner in 2002, i havent heard of a recall about that

I take it you like your car overall. My daughter is not a performance fanatic, just wants a nice car that she feels comfortable driving, and one that will present well when she takes business associates to lunch or whatever. I think she likes the image of Audi vs, say, Honda or Hyundai or ...

Re. the cam chain tensioner problem, it wasn't a recall. I was just googling for info on Audi A4's and found it in somewhere. It may have been a link I followed from www.edmunds.com; can't remember.

Any other feedback? Specifically 1.8t vs V6na?

Thanks.

I have a 1998 A4 1.8 turbo quattro. i like it, BUT here is a list of recent repairs.

Cruise control module replaced 350.00 one year later it's broken again and they won't replace it.
Brake light 100.00 All in labor. They haven't actually fixed the problem yet. They are currently trying to convince me that it is supposed to go out when you need brake pads (LIARS).
License plate lights 120.00 It's a bad design. water builds up inside and corrodes the contacts and then the things that hold the lights break.
Side Mirrors 240.00 The mirrors get this funky wavy haziness that creeps into them until it's really hard to see. Audi insists it's not a defective part.

The display on the climate control is on the fritz and I'm too cheap to fix it.
The remote keys only work if I'm standing within three feet of the door. I replaced the batteries. it didn't help.

Audis are fun to drive
If you want a reliable car buy a honda
