Default A few quick questions... New to Audi...

Hi all, I'm the former owner of this...

My former ride...

I'm starting to research a bit more before I purchase my next car, I kinda jumped in head first with that Si... I loved the car, but I feel I could have gotten something better overall had I saved my money and taken my time a bit more.

ANYWAY, I was just wondering a few things about the pricing on quality Audi tuner parts, before I more than likely end up buying a B4. I am very familiar with the idea of properly tuned performance oriented street cars, as you can probably guess by the style/mods on my EM1... I plan on tastefully and "legitamately," if you will, modding whatever I end up with as a replacement. Since I don't know Audi at all, can someone tell me a few places online to check out for good deals on a few parts?

I'm looking for information regarding:
Springs/Shocks... Along the lines of H&R/Bilstein quality, nothing too crazy, but no bullsh*t. Any suggestions of what specific setups to look at? Any swaybar/strut brace needs to be adressed at the same time? For the best overall combo of comfort/handling... And price...

Engine parts... [8D] FMIC, chip or other engine management, fuel system upgrades, turbo back exhaust, larger turbo (suggestions?) tubular mani perhaps? As I said, I don't know much about Audi tech, so any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm looking at eventually building the block for more boost (with all proper other parts too DUH) and aiming for around ~275-325 whp eventually. AT first, I plan on doing basic "bolt ons" for the most part until I get to the point of needing a re-build. I plan on shooting for around ~200-240 whp, depending on what a stock block with average milage can safely handle. <---- Help?

Drivetrain... A nice streetable clutch that can handle a bit mroe power than stock, but keeps a pretty mild feel. Flywheel suggestions??? I'm not going to worry about the differentials until I am putting down enough power to be loosing any... Is it worth it to get a Quattro over a FWD model? I'm planning on going the AWD route, but let me know if there are reasons not to.

Wheels... I'll figure those out, I have a few ideas already... SSR Prof anyone?[sm=happy046.gif][sm=hail.gif]

Aero stuff... Nothing too gaudy... Cause afterall, there's nothing worse than a Gaudy Audi, right? Subtle underbody lip spoiler, or a nice, mostly stock looking front bumper is something I'll want to look at eventually. Definately must flow with stock sides/rear... I don't want an entire KIT... Just a nice little extra touch to harden up the front end.[sm=badbadbad.gif]

I guess that about covers it... Point me to a few good online shops if you can. I plan on checking through the rest of these forums, and the classifieds as well.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

Nate

welcome to the forum man
im a guy that left the JDM scene to enter the DTM scene
wut year audi A4 are u goin for
since u plan to mod im guessin your gonna go for the 1.8T
i hope u have a lot of money becasue u gonna need a lot of it to build the engine to reach 275-325 AWD HP
becuse thats about 340-405HP and thats a tall glass to fill
people are reaching those number wit the garret turbo GT28RS
and for supension i say get some nice coilovers

and SSR Prof are my fave JDM wheels i love them and they are rare, its gonna be hard to find then wit the bolt pattern of 5x112 and the rite offset
i only seen one audi wit the SSR Prof

Thanks, I'm looking at probably a 98-0 ish 1.8T Quattros for starters. I want to find the cleanest, most stock, lowest milage car I can to begin with. I'm working with about $11-12k, and I'm pretty set on getting a stock car as my starting point.

I guess that HP goal is a bit high, but I'm in no rush. Anything worth doing, worth doing right IMHO. I plan on working up to it as well, I'm not expecting anything overnight.

Those turbos are'nt that bad, I had a 4k turbo kit pieced together for my Si, thankfully it got stolen before I installed it...[:@]

I had TEIN SS coilovers on my Si, and I really liked them... BUT, I want to do things in steps here as well.

I'm thinking some price info would help... Where are a few reputable online Audi parts stores I can check?

And about the wheels, that was just an idea... SOmething in that general ballpark is where I'll end up, it might not be those exact wheels, but something like that, probably 18s...

Thanks! More info all!

you're probably going to put over 6k.....maybe only 5k in your car to get 325awhp. I believe atp started using the 3071r-wg and got like 426awhp......but that was on a b6. Anyways, good luck in finding the audi you want and welcome to the forum.

A couple good sites.....for upgrades.

Thanks for the info...

6k sounds about right for that kind of power... I kinda got the feeling more people on the board would have setups like what I'm talking about, anyone have some links to pages with pics/setups of some built engine A4s?

Thanks for the links too, I found a few things I was looking for...

Welcome to the forum. I took a quick glance at your post in the other forum...sorry to hear about your car. I'm relatively new to Audi's as well and previously owned a Honda but you should find this forum very helpful. I picked up a 99.5 1.8TQ for about $10K so your price range should be able to get you something nice. From what I have read on here, $6K sounds like a very reasonable estimate for what you are trying to do. Good luck. BTW, is teh background for the picture of your SI in Davis, CA?....looks familiar to me for some reason...

my .02:

Go with the Cable throttle B5's(99.5 and prior). They have the AEB head which flows MUCH more than the newer heads. The intake ports are monsterous compaired to the newer ones. Also, the AEB block comes with VERY strong pistons. 715hp was made on an engine dyno with JUST rods, so they can handle the abuse.
I would guess I'm around 260-270 awhp, but that is just a guess. I can hang with my buddies 05 M3 no prob at 17-18 psi with no FMIC. I LOVE the turbo I have you had good power from 2800-3500 and then the fun begins. wheels don't really stick on the wet in 2nd, sometimes not even in 3rd. power holds all the way to 7 and prolly higher if I had the ballz :P.
I have spent around 5k on all the toys. I cheaped out on Software (big mistake) so I'm saving up for 034efi. I would recommend the standalone route so you can really tweek your setup when you add new things.
Stock 'RED' shocks are great, but if you want that extra advantage, HR/bilstein is the way to go. and get the race setup, at least to me, the sport was just to weak.
all the other things, Diff/Rebuild/$$$ issues, you don't need to do. HAS ANYONES QUATTRO TRANNY LET GO??? They are VERY robust and NOT prone to breaking. these aren't your typical VW 02j tranny, they are the swatch of trannys.
Ask me anything. I don't have all the answers, but I can help you with what i've been through.
