ORIGINAL: BadLuckAudi

just throw a level ten kit in the auto and Bt it see how long it lasts and have fun while it does
BLA, Sounds like you don't think the Lv10 tourqu converter and valvebody will hold up. why? I have been planing to do the upgrade just for the assurance in my mind that i'm not getting close to the limit of the stock tip, after i finish up a few other things.
I mean put a T3/T4 in it and i might question it, but the smaller BTs i would imagine you would be able to handle, Lv10 also has several diffrent kits or stages availble depending on how much tq/hp you are gonna be pushing.

If you decide to do it, just make sure you take lots of pics and do a nice write up for all of us.

I'm kinda interested to see where this goes. IMO, I wouldn't even try it. It will be a major PITA. But, if you're very mechanically inclined, try it & let us know how it comes out. Be sure to take lots of pics.

oh, i wouldn't do it personally, i did the timing belt a few months ago and didn't think it was that big of a deal. can do the turbo with my eyes closed. but the tranny is one thing i don't want to mess with. place i got my car chipped said they would do the work if i ordered the parts, estimated about $500-700 for the install if i remember correctly. so that with the $1800 i think for the valve body and tq converter call it $2500, yes it's more then a manual but not unreasonable at all. Documenting it shouldn't be an issue, I'll just bring my cam and record the shop doing it.

yes yes, "buy a manual", well i got into this car less then a year ago, with about 40 more months of payments to go still it's MUCH cheaper to upgrade the tip then to take the hit on dropping the car now, but thanks for the suggestion. I personally don't mind it all that much, driving in tip mode is like playing need for speed on my momo wheel on my PC. got some good footage of a high speed drive over the Tobin bridge and through the big dig i should post if i can get it off the camera.

I would do it if I had a garage. A new crankshaft would be time consuming. Finding all the parts you need would be a challenge especially if you want to find used stuff. I have thought about also and think it would be a fun project in the winter. Your car would out of comission for a bit if you can handle that.
