Default FUEL/AIR

hi there,
hope everyone had a nice christmas....
i was speaking to a mechanic today who advised me that my 10 mpg problem (on my 97 a4 1.8 20v) might be due to some setting on the throttle body, i.e. a valve/adjustment bolt that controls the air/fuel mixture!!!
has anyone heard of anything on the throttle body that sounds like what i am describing...
the car also shows a fault code stating that the mixturer adaption is above limit and a throttle valve fault...
thanks everyone....

do a search on this forum for "throttle body alignment". I don't know how off the top of my head but i know it exists in this forum ... probably many times.

clear codes, TB allignment, drive around and see if it comes up again. TB does NOT really control A/F. More of a MAF/MAP and O2 sensor thing
