well the stock one is only a few hundred bux for parts. i rly recommend a 2.8 if ur not mechanically inclined. the 1.8t if very slow stock and then u'll want to chip it and then sometime that's when many problems come. the 2.8 is almost as fast as a chipped 1.8t so u won't need to worry bout being slow for the moment. just don't race anybody cuz u won't beat many people lol. all in all hte 2.8 maintenance few is a little bit lower

 

replacing a stock turbo with another one costs a couple hundred. you can buy a used on in the classifieds section or get one from a junkyard for like 200 or less. installation is very easy. just a few bolts. you wont really have to worry about the turbo dying, only if the previous owner repeatedly neglected to let it warm up and cool down properly, but the 1.8T does break down more often than the 2.8. just realize there are practically no mods you can do to the 2.8 to make it faster, except for a supercharger.
