Default Glove Box Problem...

You know on the B6 A4s (Same thing on the B5s I'm sure) when you open the Glove Box, it goes down slowly... Well mine's always done that, and today I opened it, and it just flopped open, with no resistance. It feels like it's not catching, does anyone have any idea what this is? I can't stand it when little crap like this goes bad, because it's always a royal pain in the ***.

my handle (B5) snapped off recently and the release mechanism that was attached to the handle cracked i believe. So I had to jimmy my way in with two screwdrivers to get my registration and insurance out just in case.

It should just be a gear w/ restistance that lowers it slowly, at least that's what it has been on other cars w/ this type of stuff that i have fixed. It's just a plastic gear that can get stripped out easily, but i have not pulled the on out of the Audi.

Pull of the side panel cover on the pass side

Its just like the one covering the fuse panel and look at the bottom of that area

There is a cylinder type thing that releases the the door might have just came loose

I clipped the fitting back in, and reconnected the clip for the light... And the fitting keeps popping back out if I don't assist the glove box door in opening... i.e I have to let it down real slow.

I can't see how I can replace it... Anyone have any ideas?

Well that's good to know, it seems like there's supposed to be a clip on the inside of the bracket that's supposed to hold it in... I think it may have popped off. Is there a clip that secures it in place?
