got a 98 1.8t to drop some $$ on
So a little while ago I got a 98 1.8T for a pretty good price but there was certainly a reason for that.
It sat for over a year when I bought it so right away i dropped in a new battery, new brakes all around, put on a new rear shock i think blistien, STILL need to replace the rear springs i believe...one kind of sticks when i'm goin over bumps sometimes....
had to get it inspected and had to detail it as well as buff it pretty good. the hood has a big faded spot on it but thats alright because soon as spring hits I'm going to repaint the hood and fenders and bumper and all the black trimming around the bottom of the car(until i can save up for the s4 kit)
the engine was replaced and the new engine has about 45k and about 88k on the shell. I guess it has a better turbo in it and also a cold air intake was dropped in.
I put in 3 alpine type-r 10's goin to one amp, 2 component sets at my feet and 2 alpines replacing the rear stocks all leading to a second amp. OH yeah and my bass cube. I have yet to hook up my 5farad cap though, which should help with the alternator before I start to fry that.
at any rate. what I'm getting at is I never had a turbo set up before. and well, these audi engines are a lot different than the hondas i'm used to checkin out. My first concern is basically beefing this bitch up. She's way to slow. I get hella turbo lag, although I can substantually tell the differnece between the turbo in MY car and the turbo in a regular stock 98 a4.
Where do I start to gain more power? turbo timer? boost control? Garrett or APR chip? I also heard that there are parts on the turbo that aren't very strong and replacing them will also help.
How much would a dual exhaust cost me?
I know these might be some basic newb questions but both me and my boyfriend have audi's...his is a 98 2.8quattro though...a little nicer and faster than mine. I would really love to surpise him one day and make him EAT MY DUST

well i am just gitting my freelancing to start picking up. So basically every check i git from working from home can be used towards my car (i have other jobs that handle bills)
I guess there really isnt a limit. Although, I'm not ridiculous and Im not gonna go buying the most expensive **** for EVERYTHING i buy. But so far, no expenses have really been spared. I'd hate to do something wrong, ya know? I like everything to be just right, and just my way.
i have been lookin at exhausts but honestly i've never had to pick one out before. I bought my last car with the exhaust already on it! (big mistake lol) But, for future purchases....I like deep, low sounds. plus my car is an auto (it was almost perfect, i know)
if i was to git an APR chip, I could just swap them out, right?

since ur car is an auto theres not much u can do, that tranny will hold u back
you can get a GIAC or APR chip with an ARP exhaust, i like the sound of the APR, its a good low not to loud sound
and the APR chip if u are close to a dealer u can have them take ur ECU out and soder the chip or u can mail ur chip in

for turbos u can do a K04 which is a direct bolt on but if u gonna go K04 might as well go with GIAC cause apr doesnt offer K04 software

ok well i'm aware of swapping out an auto tranny in a del Sol to a 5-speed
and it wasn't really that expensive. Honda really has everything ready to change it over to a 5speed, even a place for your clutch is already there...but its still a pretty tricky thing to do
has nebody done this with their audi(swap auto for manual)? What kinda time did that take up ? and how much was taken from your pocket?
and hey, while we're on this topic, Ive gotten nothing but mixed opinions on which is the proper way to shift with the tiptronic. do ya take your foot of the gas and shift or do you continue applying pressure to the pedal while u shift?
i tend to release most of the pressure and shift but i'm not really sure which is absolutely correct.
And does anybody else's A4 ride at 3-4000rpms ANNOYINGLY and not shift automatically for a while? Usually I git so annoyed with the high RPMs and no shifting that i click it over to tiptronic and just use that instead.
