Default Got some question on my new to me A4

Hi, i am new to the forum, just got my b5 last week and am very excited about it. It's a 2.8 auto, i have not yet test it's potental, pretty much keep it under 2500 rpm all the time. The car has about 54k on it and everything seem to be in working order. My question is, how dependable is the 5b? I mean, can i drive it like a Toyota, or a Honda? Is it bad for the car if i switch to manualmatic all the time? And at last, what is the fastest way to launch my car? Thanks for a wonderful forum and i look forward for all your input!!!

There's no way you can drive a B5 like a Honda or toyota for that matter. I have a accord cpe and a 99 1.8TQ, it handles better, has a smaller turn radius, comfortable, leather is nice (except when hot or when freezing outside), and most important, it's not for Ricers....

no, you can't drive it like a toyota or honda. that's kind of a ridiculous question if you really think about it. it's a german luxury car, not a japanese economy car..no, it's not bad to keep your car in tip-mode...as for launching......you can't launch. you have an automatic.

Gonna have to agree with black991.8tq, using the brakes to launch an auto is much more effective than just punching it. Also, for everyone else that was being a smart ***, what I beleive B5nightrider meant was will his B5 be as reliable as a Honda or Toyota. I think he understands that his car is actually an Audi and not another brand. The answer is yes. If you maintain your car as you should, you will have great reliability.

uuuuuhhhh, the answer is NO. you CANNOT drive your car like a toyota or honda. a honda/toyota can be driven 20k miles without an oil change and still run fine, your audi cannot. a honda/toyota can be taken over 200k miles without a timing belt change, your audi cannot. your B5 is going to eventually have control arm issues, if it doesn't already, control arms are not a problem with toyotas/hondas. toyotas/hondas don't get oil sludge. toyotas/hondas don't need special coolant/power steering fluid/synthetic oil, your audi does.

uuuuuhhhh, my answer was correct. I said with proper maintenance your car will be reliable to 200k. I personally don't know a Honda owner with over 100k who hasn't had their timing belt changed (Maybe we're too cautious where I'm from). And no, a 20k oil change will not be sufficient. Please correct me if I'm wrong bentframe but I thought oil sludging was only common in the 1.8T (because of the turbo). Anyway, take care of your car, be prepared for small repairs (control arms, brake calipers, etc.) and you'll be fine. If not, get a Honda!

I like my Audi, just that I am not sure of it reliablity since I never own one before. If I keep up with the servicing, how many miles can I expect to put on before any major service/repair need to be done? Personally, before I got the Audi, I own a Hyundia, and I like that car too.
