Default headlight problem?

hi im new in the forums(im a major audi newb),

just bought a 97 audi a4, and noticed that when i start the ignition the lights(headlights) automatically turn on, and i somehow cant get them to turn off even
with that light mechanism thing(the one that goes up down). are these automatic lights, or do i have a problem here?

Try this...

http://www.audiworld.com/tech/ext7.shtml

Thats rather technical, I think a simplier way is to remove the wire that runs to the bulbs for the DRL or simply remove the bulbs. This would require disconnecting the headlight and removing the back cover. Shouldn't be too difficult.
