Default Heated seat problems

I'm new to the site. I've searched a good bit of the forums and can't find an answer to my problem. My heated seat in my 98 2.8 quattro heats up at only 1 little point and it gets unbelievably hot. I know you are not supposed to place a knee on the seat but I'm sure I have at one time or another. Can this be fixed? They are cloth seats if that matters.

These stupid heated seats are more trouble than they are worth, IMO. My girlfriend loves them, I never use them -- and I have the leather(ette).
I'd just disable the damn things... pull a fuse, or a plug, or something. I have no idea what's involved... but we dont want any car fires!

The wires break easily. Replacement heaters can be purchased, but it is probably more money that it is worth to insert them. Just turn the switch off and forget it.

The reason I said to disconnect them completely, is because of the post last week... the guys seats caught fire in the middle of the night, when the heated seats hadn't been used in months. Was minor, just burned a hole in his seat... but coulda been worse.

I'd disconnect them, THEN forget it. (if there is a fuse for them, that'd be the easiest way to do it)
