Hi,
I have an 1997 Audi A4 1.8 24v and i have recently got a heating problem. My heaters are not blowing out hot air. I thought that this must be a thermostat problem, but i have bleeded the coolant system and i have had no luck. The cars temperature always remains perfect and it never overheats. Any idea what this problem could be caused by?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Heaters not blowing hot air. PLEASE HELP!!
Hi welcome to the forum. Lots of useful information and helpful people.

Obvious problems could be blocked heater core, stuck/broken flap motor which directs the air over the heater core.

Put the heat on full blast, and check in the engine bay if the coolant pipes going through the fire wall are both hot. If not, then likely problem with either valve or heater core.

If hot water is going to the heater core, then it may be the flap valve motor, in which case, a VAGcom may have codes in the HVAC module. I'm assuming your airconditioning works?

BTW, not sure how you got 24 valves on your engine...Most of us have 20 on a 1.8T

My mistake it is a 20v. My car is not a Turbo and does not have air con. What is the arrow circle shaped symbol button near the heating switches? How easy is it to change the heating core and fix the flap valve motor? Sorry im not familiar with the words codes, VAGcom & HVAC module. Where can i find out more about them?

RE: Heaters not blowing hot air. PLEASE HELP!!
Hi

I also have a 97 - A4 with no freakin heat when it idles, some heat when RPM increases.
New pump, new thermostat, bled system etc. etc.
Purchased car in Atlanta so the heat has rarely if ever been needed. Live in Michigan and it gets cold here.
Hoses into dash hot.
Pop them off and no flow till RPM increased, so I think I need to re-bleed the system again.

Does anyone know how to get to the heater damper and/or valve motor?

Next thing to be checked I guess, as right now my assumption is that the damper door is stuck or only partially open.

Is the damper door controlled by vacuum or electric motor?

Instructions on removing dash to get at everything?

Tks

Doug
