hey guys, just stumbled upon this site while researching chip upgrades for audi a4's. I have a ? and would like to see what you guys think.

just bought a 2001 certified preownded a4 1.8t. the car(when i bought it) had 51, 300 miles. the dealer exlpained that the car had a 300 point inspection, anything wrong would have been fixed....the dealer also explained that the car had just been serviced for the 50k mile service.
now i've had it for three weeks, and the service in 100 miles light came on. i called the dealership and spoke to the service dept and found out the 50k service was done at like 48 or 49k, a year ago in february. so now the 60k service needs to be done at 51, 700 miles. IMO the dealer should service the car at no expense to me(especially since they told me the car wouldnt need service for another year). I've called them several times and they are giving me the runaround.
so the ? is, do you guys agree that the dealer should pay for the $160.00 service?

sorry for the long ramble(i've knocked back a few beers, so....)

thanks
db

I didn't think there was such a thing as a 50k mile service. Just a 45k and a 60k. Sounds like you are getting the run around here. I have the service intervals posted in the "General Tech" forum. If they really **** you off, try contacting Audi of NA for help.

hmmm...i just looked at that list in the tech forum. If all of those things need to be done at the 60k service, it seems to me that they should have been completed in the 300 point inspection. And the numbers, from what they told me, are not matching up. the dealership explained that a service was performed at 50k, then should be performed at 60k($160.00), then a major service at 80k(which would cost around $400).
now, i'm not a tight ***, and whatever needs to be done to fix my car i will do, but i just dropped 16g's a few weeks ago...kinda sucks that they want me to give them $160.00 after a month of driving. I guess if i cannot get them to perform the service at no charge, I'll have to contact Audi's customer service.

thanks for the reply

You don't have to give them anything. You are under no obligation to have any service, routine or otherwise performed at the dealership. Just keep receipts of work done

If I remember correctly, the 60K service doesn't consist of much except for changing sparkplugs, filters and an oil change. The rest is "inspections" which serve as justification for charging 600 dollars.

BTW, don't put too much on their 300 point inspection. Hooking up a VAG-Com and looking for codes probably counted for checking 150 points; car has 4 tires (present 4 points), and have the correct air pressure (4 points), adds another 8 points. Low beams, high beams, fog lamps, front side and rear turn signals work (times 2 for right and left) adds another 10 points; you get the idea. I can check 300 items on the car without getting close to a drive train, suspension or brakes.

That being said, welcome to the Audi club. It is a nice car. You will be glad that you have an extended warranty. To enjoy the car fully, find a good independent mechanic who specializes in Audi/Porsche. Change the oil and filter every 5K with Mobil 1 and have fun.

certified preowned means you pay thousands more for a $200 check up

I have a question concerning sumthen like this.. I got my audi about a month ago but i didnt get the extended warranty, and i heard that by law here in ma you have a 30 drivetrain warranty, since my check engine came on (came off now kinda weird) can i take it back to the ealer before the 30 days is over so they have it checked without any cost to me?

Don't know about MA, but since you changed the intake the day before the CEL light came on, I think you are SOL.

You can't expect them to cover something that you have decided needs to be re-engineered.

CPO does not mean that you pay an Extra 200 for an inspection.

First, what kind of dealership was it. Audi CPO can only be done by Audi and it means that you get the remainder of the factory warranty...your year was 3 years from date car was placed in service. In addition, the dealerships sometimes use this as a way of getting you to by their extended warranty...don't do it! It is about 1000.00 and they can be purchased by any for less.

300 point inspection: You need to get a copy of the service! It could be many things but all dealerships do this before they sell a car from their lot. It is the law in most states but sometimes they don't do it until the car is sold. It encludes checking tires, brakes, and batteries etc. What they are telling you is that you did not listen to them!

...the dealer exlpained that the car had a 300 point inspection, anything wrong would have been fixed....the dealer also explained that the car had just been serviced for the 50k mile service.

That means the car was road worthy and they did an oil change.

Solution:

Your car is telling you to perform the oil change etc. and this has nothing to do with a 60k service. Basically you can just reset your trip...how to is found in your manual. Did you get a manual?
