HELP!!!Audi A4 2.0T SERIOUS ENGINE OIL PROBLEM
Help!!!Thanks guys in advance for anything reading this post.
My ride is Audi A4 2.0T 2009 B8 purchased from Audi Melbourne near RMIT in the CBD. Everything is good except it has serious Engine Oil burning problem.
When I just got car last March, the Engine Oil light turned on at 2000KM, so I took the car back dealer and wanted to find out what is going on. My dad even asked me to exchange to a different car. The Service Manager showed me on the manual saying it is possible to burn up to 0.5 liter of Engine Oil every 1000KM. When the light is on, it indicates it used up 1 liter of oil, in my case, 2000KM, which is normal. Fair enough, I had nothing to say since the manual said so. Even it is not happening to every 2.0T engine, it’s my bad luck and I gave up arguing with them.
Fast forward to this year, my car has run almost 20,000KM now. In the past year, I have to fill up engine oil every 2000KM, very annoying. And my exhaust pipe is as dark as charcoal. Even my car park floor is black now under and behind the exhaust. The cleaner in the building was accusing me polluting the car park floor.
In recent months, roughly after the car has run over 15,000KM, I have to fill up every 1000KM. Even worse, yesterday the Engine Oil light turns on again, this time, only 700KM!!!
It’s getting worse and worse. I have tried many times with the dealer Audi Melbourne and every time I got different answers, but leading to the same result: No Resolution!
When the car was new, I was asking for an exchange or refund, it didn’t happen because the Owner’s Manual said it is normal. Second, early this year, after Audi asked the dealer to run a few consumption tests, Audi admitted there is a problem and might looking to replace the engine. It didn’t happen either because a few weeks later the Dealer said it is actually the Bypass system is the problem. It cannot feed the engine oil back to engine and got wasted from exhaust. Alright, did they replace that? No. I thought I was waiting for the Bypass System to be shipped from Germany (Coz they said so). Then I had no reply for another 2 months and I had to chase it up again. This time I was told by the dealer that it was actually a common problem for all the 2.0T engines and Audi has working on it. How ridiculous! That means I have to wait forever.
Last attempt: I went back to the dealer and told them off. I told them waiting is not a solution and I can’t believe Audi treat their customers like this. Then I got another answer. The service manger told me there is already solution in other countries but because Australia has very strong regulation on imported vehicles, Audi is trying to pass the regulation and localize the solution.
Thanks for your patience reading this long letter. I just want to know is there anyone out there like me, having the same problem and want to get it resolved. We can unite together and try to work out something with Audi. If you car is new and is having similar engine oil problem, but now that bad, I warn you that it will only get worse, not better.

I believe that I have an answer for you. The NY Times publishes a listing of TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins) from all manufacturers. Audi has acknowledged the issue in TBA# 101103. (This is not a recall.) The service procedure is to replace the crankcase pressure-regulating valve and also the front crankshaft seal. I have a 2010 A4 Avant with the same problem and the dealer told me that they are awaiting parts from Germany.
Hope this works for you.

I am having the same problem as well. I just bought an 09 A4 2.0 with 86k, drove it 1 day and the oil light came on saying to add oil. I have to put in a quart of oil once a week and we have only had it 4 weeks. The Audi dealer also told me that all they could do is run some oil consumption tests, but it sounds like a bunch of time and $$$. I will keep checking back for updates and I will reply if I find out any more info.
I bought a 2009 Audi A4 with 18K miles on it this spring. I changed the oil at 22K miles and then the oil light came on 3K miles later at 25K. I didn't mind stopping to add a quart since I hear this is common... but once I added a quart, the computer could not recognize how much oil was left in the engine and simply said "no information avliable on engine oil levels". Now that Audis don't have dip sticks anymore there is no way to tell how much oil is in my engine. I took it to the dealer and told them if Audi is going to stop putting dip sticks in their cars they better make damn sure their fancy little computer is foolproof. They agreed to take my car and fix the computer and go ahead and install the repair kit from Audi that keeps the car from burning too much oil. They are keeping the car and gave me a loaner to drive while it is in the shop, all free of charge.

Hi EricDavis85, this is how I do it.
Make sure your engine is warm and you turned off the car for at least 3-5mins. Push Start the car without starting the engine. Now go to your computer, Car, Oil Level and it should show reading in seconds. If not working, maybe the computer is broken.

Yeah, it's the sensor in the hood latch. I tried resetting it about 10 different ways, including the one you mentioned. Audi diagnosed it when they were doing the oil consumption test. They did the oil consumption fix for free but wanted $150 for the latch sensor. I found it online for $20 and will try to do it myself before I pay them $150.
