they found out problem... thanks for all the help guys... but its much bigger than u could imagine

my last repairman put in a faulty alternator.... so what that did was give power, then didnt give power, then gave then didnt..... it wore out the fuel injection computer system... so its fukd.... we are paying 600 for a new computer..... the cylinder itself is perfectly fine... the icm is fine.. the coil pack is fine.... everything...... so yeh... we need a new computer.. and ofcourse a new alternator..... buttttttt..... i might b selling my car now cus its just been problem after problem (and its not a lemon).... i love audis and if i had my choice i'd get either a B7 or an rs4... but i dont have the choice.... and the car ill b getting is definitely not bad.... so if i DO sell it (which could very well be)... ill be getting a 2002 lexus IS300.... ill put in 500.. get 245hp... and im set.

Thanks for your help guys... i love my audi... but when it has problems like that... its like a sick dog that u know will be much better if its put to sleep (or in this case sold).

I think your getting ripped off.. Go to autozone, rent a ******* scanner and scan your car for codes and report back here before you sell your car.. Who gave you this explanation of the faulty alternator??? Sounds like BS.. It would be worth your while to get a 2nd oppinion on all this.

This thread is just rediculous...
phroztbyt3 Don't take advantage of the forums like this. A search would have gotten you well on your way, and you would not be getting TOTALLY RIPPED OFF by the STEALERSHIP if you just pay a little bit of attention to people that go out of their way to help like onepoint8tee. He told you exactly what you needed to do, if you had done it, you may have saved your step dad a few hundred, or even a thousand bucks...
I guess some people just don't want to save money.... Good luck to you.

i DID do it.. it DIDNT work... we replaced the coil pack and the frign ICM.... but it DIDNT WORK.... so thats y we took it to the dealership... these guys have been working with cars for 15 years... im sure theyre legit... and the audi dealership ONLY works with audis there... so i dont know why onepoint8tee is getn all worked up over this if what he said i already did.

we vagcommed it... i dont know about codes... but all it tells us is that there is misfire and that it has something to do with the fuel injection. So the audi mechanics told us the REAL situation.

Why would you replace a coil pack if you dont even know which one it could be? Do you mean you replaced all coil packs? How did you narrow it down to determine which coil pack to replace????? And the ICM??? Are you saying that you just bought those parts just in case?? What a total waste of time and money! Who vaged it for you phroztbyt3??? Im not worked up, it just seems to me that you are doing all of the wrong things in your situation.. Who is "we" when you say "we replaced the coil pack and the frign ICM"??? The audi dealer and you??? There is never a good reason to take your car to the dealer unless its for a warranty, a recall, or some extreme case where no one can figure out whats going on. Well whatever you do, just let us all know how much it cost you in the end..

Man.. It just really sucks when you try to help someone and tell them everything to do, and then they turn around and bitch slap you and take the problem to the dealer because they are too stupid to follow directions.. The problem that the dealer is telling him he has is vitually unheard of.. He has got to be getting scammed. None of what he has said makes sense as far as the diagnosing goes.

i didnt bitch slap u.... u just kinda got worked up over nothing.

we fixed the fuking problem.... btw what i said was ...... it was the ICM .... aka "control unit".... that went bad... but what i said was that it was the alternator's fault because the alternator put in a couple months ago was faulty... so we replaced both parts..... the audi dealership mechanics told us right away that the alternator is what caused it to go bad in the first place... jeezzzzz.
