This seriously is a bitch, you want to come over here and help me man, i live in Overland Park, Kansas. Stop by and give me a hand. I knew those damn bolts wernt welded. I still dont understand what taking the wheel off did, onepoint8tee had a b5, and im not sure but i have a b6 and it might be a little different, obviosly it is cause those bolts are defintally not welded. I am seriously about to hurt my self..but not really

Jesus man WTF is the problem? I've never had a problem pulling a cat out of a 1.8, have you ever heard of penetrating oil? Spray some PB blaster or something on the bolt and let it soak overnight so you can take a break. The next day the bolts should be loosened up and easy to turn out.

If they aren't welded, stick a wrench on the bolt from the top, then use a big *** extention and ratchet from the bottom. When you turn the bolt the wrench on the top will get stuck against either the block or the body and should give you enough torque on the bolt to take it out.
If you don't have those tools, take your happy *** to an autoparts store and remedy that situation.

I could start a garage with all the tools I have...does taking the wheel off do anything on a b6, or is that just the b5?

You only need to take the wheel off if your tools suck. I never do, but if it makes it easier for you to do its not like its hard labor.

Wait if they are welded on the top then how come i had to have one person hold the one i got off still with a wrench. Because if i try to get it from the bottom, the whole thing moves and it doesnt unscrew. And after i got that first bolt off from the cat>dp the whole bolt and nut came off..see pics.
If the top was spinning and you had to hold both sides to get the nut off, the weld broke. A lot of times the whole bolt/studwill break off which makes things easier. I hope you are using a heavy duty floor jack or jack stands while your under the car!
