help a novice-- opinion on 1996 AUDI A4
I'll start--I am not a "car person." I am looking at a 1996 Audi A4 2.8 manual with 133,000 miles for $4650 (clean title, excellent condition of exterior, some wear interior). What is your opinion of this year (long-term upkeep, do they hold up???). I drive an old Ford truck that needs nothing, so I'm not sure I'm ready for a host of maintenance issues. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
The price is a bit high. I would try to talk them down to 4 even. I got my 96 with 91k far below that but I got it from a good friend.
As far as maintenance stuff, check for records of what services have been done to it. Make sure the timing belt has been done! Mine was... I replaced my front rotors and pads, plugs, wires, and ran seafoam through it since I bought it. Not a very expensive service since I did it myself..

Dont get a 96 (mine was a nightmare broke once a month) Invest in a 98 or above... maybe a 1.8T???)

Yea I would suggest a 98 and above. The price is a bit high but if thats the one you want just get the service records on the timing belt change and other maintenance stuff.

Well you answered your own question. You are buying a car that is going to need a lot of maintenance / repair with the mileage it has on it.
You either need to be a "car person" like most of us are and be able to do your own work, or have a fat bank account and a second vehicle to drive while repairs are being made. Sounds like you should be looking at a toyota / honda sedan.
