Help with pricing please
Hi,
I am considering buying a used A4. I looked at one today, it is a 2002 1.8T Quattro. It is like a champagne color with beige leatherette. It has a lot of options, Bose stereo, 6 cd, On-star, auto dimming mirrors, hands free phone system, heated front and rear seats, fold down rear seat, moonroof. It is an automatic (I know, I know, but I like it
). The car is in great condition, I couldn't find a scratch on it. There are 43K miles on it. The guy has it priced at $24K. Is that too high? I think it is a good deal, but I am not the best at buying cars. Usually I have a guy go with me, but I just moved to this area and don't know anyone. Can you guys/gals help?
Thanks so much
Sarah

hey, welcome to the forum. Have you checked out KBB.com or Edmunds.com??
I took a quick look on autotrader.com and it seems that people are asking $24,900 +/- for the car you are looking for.
It sounds a bit high to me...Was that with an Audi Certified Used Car Warranty? That would be worthwhile.
I think you might be able to negotiate it for a bit less.
You can also checkout KellyBlueBook.com and get the blue book value as a reference.
Good Luck!

I did look at kbb and edmunds, they price it around $20K, but all the dealers are looking are around $26K. Why are there prices so much higher at the dealer? I haven't been able to find an Audi at the blue book value yet....
sorry for all the questions, I am new to buying cars alone, I just don't want to get screwed.

I'm no expert, but here is what works for me. Play the dealers off one another. BE PATIENT and make it clear that you have a couple different cars lined up. Set the price you want before talking to the dealer and if they don't meet it.....walk out and tell them another dealer has a better price. Always be prepared to walk away.
I'm not sure if you're planning on buying it all at once or financing it.
I would consider going to the dealerships and checking out what type of leasing or APR specials they have going. You could get a brand new one....
Just my 2 cents.... I know it comes down to personal preference when buying new or used cars....

thats extreamly high for that car. At the Audi Dealer ship closest to me, Audi of Mendham in NJ. they have 2003 1.8 quattros with around 20k miles for 24,000. I think you should skip this car, or negotiate a good amount. If you live in NJ head up here but im sure the prices will be similar at most places.
