Help! Should I buy a 1996 Audi A4 2.9L Quattro Automatic for 6500?
i wouldnt buy it if i were you, buy a cheap civic or something to get you through a couple years and then get a newer preowned car with less miles. think about it, you a buying a 10 year old car for $6,500 with over a 100,000 miles that will just run you alot of money in repairs and also have a higher insurance rate than an old honda.
Not yet, tomorrow at 9 am :-).
It is literally impossible around here to get a decent Toyota or Honda, I mean I called up people at 12 pm the SAME DAY the listings first came out and the cars were already sold, I must of been told 25 or so odd times the car I was interested in was sold. Not only that, but every car in my price range, which was about 8k, has over 100,000 miles on it, whether it be Toyota, Honda, or Audi.
Kelly Blue book for the thing in good or poor condition (I forget which) is 7,200 so I think I'm getting somewhat of a good deal, I plan on driving this thing for two years at which point I will have a decent job and will trade it in for whatever strikes my fancy at the time. Since I'm a good 1500 below my budget I have room for repairs, so in essence I could take it to the Audi dealer and get the radiator replaced for 800 bucks, but I'll probaly end up taking it to some honest mechanic who will just patch it. Hondas and Toyotas just don't catch my fancy like this Audi, I fell in love with this car when I first saw it, and due to time restraints, that was at night! My theory is that it is better to put a grand into a car you like driving and appreciate than buy some car just because it is 'reliable', I'm just hoping that 'a grand' doesn't turn out to be two or three in the time that I own it.
If anyone's interested I could take some pictures of it so you guys could give it a once over, but I doubt anyone would be THAT interested in a 1996 A4 :-p.
I also have a feeling since I like this car so much, it will finally be the gateway to get me 'into' cars, as I literally know nothing about them. I got my first computer when I was thirteen and now I'm a computer repair technician, I'm sure I'll get just as into the car since it's my first!

Sorry to triple post here but I need to vent, I love my car, but alas it is not a Quattro (as advertised). It doesn't say quattro on the back or inside, something I should of known, but alas when I bought it I knew nothing about cars, and it looks like I payed about 300 bucks too much. Am I really losing that much HP and whatever by not having a Quattro, the all wheel drive doesn't seem to matter so much as it doesn't really rain or snow in Arizona. I also noticed that I can't fit my ipod cigarette lighter power adapter in my cigarette lighter, as the lighter doesn't seem to be the normal size. Can I switch it out or something?
your car is actually faster than a quattro....less parasitic loss with only two wheels turning instead of four.....but if it ever rains.......too bad.
I own the same year and model car in your description. It had 114k on it but it had one previous owner who turned it in when her lease ended. i paid 63, md inspected. Way under blue book, better than alot of the beamers i was test driving at the time.
