Help!! Won't turn over

RE: Help!! Won't turn over
***UPDATE***
Replaced the battery because it wasnt holding a charge very well but still no go. Starter solenoid, Starter, and key cylinder are all I have left that it really could be. As stated above I am fairly new to Audi's and have no idea where anything is on this engine. Anyone know how to get to the starter? I want to test Voltage at the starter.
Thanks in advance

easier to get at it from under the car if car jacked up then you can see it easy ish "check the thin plug in wire connection" it might be rusted that's the one that activates the startermotor from the ignition key

RE: Help!! Won't turn over
I'm having the exact same problem on my 1997 Cabriolet V6 2.8. Occasionally when you trun the key to start, nothing will happen except for a buzzing noise in the dash. The instrument lights light up as normal. If I try again, it will usually start. I had the battery, charging system, and starter all checked, but they are fine. I also replaced the ignition switch two months ago. Any insight anyone can offer would be greeatly appreciated!

same thing. mines going into the stealer Wed to get looked at. be careful, mine got progressively worse over a short time. Don't want a fellow owner to get stuck. Luckily mine is safe in the garage and not on the side of the road. When I find out what it is I'll post back and let you know.

RE: Help!! Won't turn over
As I stated in my PM to you, it was indeed the starter solenoid that was the culprit. The dealer traced it down after a few days of dealing with it. They were nice enough to loan me a car while it was in there too. Fairly cheap fix. Paid $40 for the part, little over an hour in labor I think. I did have to pay for some of their diagnostic time but not too bad....maybe a total of $250 for that. As they checked over my car they came across a cracked CV boot so I had them take care of that while I was in there, $315 for that little unexpected fix, and an oil change. All in all came out half as much as what I was expecting so I was happy even though I did need the CV boot.

Yeah I was going to add once again, that it sounds like the starter solenoid... Identical symptoms as my Z28 had over the summer... just intermittently would not start. And when it did start... it was as if nothing was wrong.

Maybe blown fuse.
Check fuses espcially. 'Engine Timing Fuse" car will not start without it. will turn over but not start.
