HELP_Speedo Whacky-Can't Read CODES

Default HELP_Speedo Whacky-Can't Read CODES

My wifes 99 A4 had her speedometer needle go whacky today,it was bouncing all over the place.Anyone no what will cause this?Also I am unable to connect my OBD scanner to the car.It will powere the scanner up but won't reconize the car or connect?????I have a regular cheap scanner that I have used before and a Snap On and neither one works???Help Please and thanks for the assistance.Dave

My speedo won't move at all, checked codes and it looks like it could be the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). Which, if you go back a page or so, people have told me is located on top of the tranny, near the 02 sensor held on by a 10mm bolt. Pretty cheap to replace if that's your problem...

what cartridge are you using the the snap on tool have you used it on that car before?? same with the other tool have you used it on that car before?? the VSS could be a good starting point or you have a shorted wire somewhere not allowing you to probe the system
