Hi guys, I've just bought a 1998A4 1.8 , it only came with one plastic Audi key with a light on the plastic. I dont know if it ever had a remote. When I central lock the car with the key it locks with a beep sound and also has the flashing red light by the door lock. And that makes me think that it had a remote before.
So if I go to ebay and buy a remote and have it programed,is there a chance it will work?
Please also advise if there is any particular remote that I should be looking for.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Napi

You should be able to use a remote.

A remote should work, you'll need a key cut so you can program it.
Unless its the old style remote, I think its the newer style.

The plastic key you have maybe the valet key, i cant remeber if mine has a light on it, yo can deff get a remote and program it, the blinking light is the alarm, which means doors locked and alarm acticated. go to the stealership and see what they got, dont be surprised if its $$ they arent cheap.

Dead strings
I have the exact same question as the author of the post. To bad the thread has no resolution. Should I start a new string?

FYI
I got vcds and confirmed that I had keyless entry. I also bought a couple fobs from a 01 a6 on ebay and was able to program them to work on my car.
