Default i have a leak but i dont know what to call the part.

i have a minor leak on the drivers side of my car. its on the engine below the intake and the resivor. its the thing with the oil filter and some hoses running to it. i was trying to find prices on it but i dont know what the name of it is. i found the name of one of the hoses by the part number on the hose and it was heater something. but that didnt help me. i just need to know what it is called or how much it cost. the hose is what is leaking but that housing has taking alot of damge from the leak. thanks for your time.

It is the oil cooler. Most likely it is one of the hoses that is leaking. Replace the hoses. You will need new clamps, coolant (G12) . If there is dried pink crud on the top of the cooler, it is dried coolant. Try brushing it off with a dremmel and a wire brush attachment.

thank you, you have answered my ? i thought that might be what it was but the pic i seen of a oil cooler didnt really look the same. but then im sure there are other parts i am seeing on there. i asked a repair shop to look at it. they said that they might have to replace the cooler( they didnt say what it was at the time) due to corrosion frome the leak. do you think i should go ahead and replace it to be safe? thanks again.

Most unusual for it to corrode. Again, the dried pink crud can be brushed off with a dremel with a wire brush attachment. I have the same problem, and actually, I have left it for the last two years. I suppose there could be a pin hole leak in the cooler itself, but I would more likely think it is the hose attachment.

Shouldn't be an expensive repair either way. Just find a good audi mechanic, not the dealer, or do it your self.
