ok so I have come to the conclusion that the thermostat is not opening, because I got one of those temp guage laser pointer things and the top hose would heat up pretty hot like 212 but the temp of the hose on the bottom of the radiator would be like 45... I dont think its circulating I think the thermostat is stuck closed

does the thermostat have to open for coolant to flow through the heater core?

yea I put the old one back in and put some card board in front of the radiator so It warms up a little faster and it perfectly fine now, Im going to do the water pump and allthat stuff when it warms up, Its too cold to be dicking around with it, it works ok, it also might just be that im used to the way hondas warm up

so it was overheating, and now it's not heating up fast enough?

also, aren't hondas usually very slow to heat up? my mom always had a honda when I was younger and I remember always being cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

Pearlcfcivc -- you should post up the brand of the t-stat you bought that didn't work, so everyone else will know not to chance buying that one. I ordered the one from ECS and it was a Behr, made in Germany, the o.e. t-stat. I think they work the best, and cost only 1/2 of what the dealer charges.

Originally it wasnt heating up fast so I replaced the thermostat and with the new one it would over heat, so I put the old one back in and a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator and its better, It warmed up for about a week to 50 here and it never overheated, I tested both thermostats in boiling water the one that was in the car opened at like 175-180 and the new one opened at 190... I plan to do more work on it in the summer time

I have owned several hondas and everyone Ive had warmed up fast with the exception of a junky crx I had which needed a new thermostat

The one I bought was just from a local auto parts store, I cant rememeber who maded it but I do remember it saying made in germany on it? doesnt sound like it makes sense, Im not entirely sure that the thermostat is all that is wrong, but I dont plan to work on it until its warmer unless, it was overheating or not warming up at all, something that would damage the motor

Well, if you've never done a timing belt job before, make sure your weekend is cleared up and you have an extra car available to be able to run to the store for parts (hose clamps, broken T-45 torx bit, extra distilled water....) if you need them. It really only took me about 6-7 hours of actual work, the rest was cleaning everything as I was going along, plus I put in a snub mount, which makes the car vibrate a little at idle.
