Hey i have a 97 2.8 A4 i love my car but it has 165k on it but for a car with that kinda mileage it runs extremely well and quiet. The only problem is a vibration when the car hits around 80 or 85. Wat im wondering is if it would be a good idea to either have the engine replaced or rebulilt. I love the car and im only affraid because its soo high mileage that she'll die on me reguarless of how well she runs. Or should i not worry aobut the mileage and as long as shes running well leave it alone and jsut keep up with oil changes and whatnot. Any feedback would be awesome

 

what kind of vibrations? and if it were mine, I would run it into the ground.

 

im sure uve already considered this, but a wheel could be off balance..

 

I don't ususal cruse at 80, but I know some friends that say they almost get a shimy at that speed. they have had everything looked at and can't find the prob.

 

Most likely you need your tires balanced, and or a wheel alignment. Another possibility, if you have noise is a worn wheel bearing.

 

Is it accelerating past that speed, or holding that speed? Full throttle, or any or no throttle?

Oh, is it 5 spd or auto?

 

I would go with the alignment. Certainly sounds like a front end issue. I had a similiar issue with a Shelby Durango I owned. Up around 95 it got a little shakey feeling through the steering wheel and it was an alignment issue.
