No he needs cat converters, they are $1,000 a pop plus 5+ hours of labor to put them in, i've done hundreds of 3.0L cat converters for those exact same fault codes.
Un-less you wanna take the hack approch and put in universal cats and re-locate the O2 sensors.

why would anyone do that... you can get a 2.5" dp back exhaust system from techtonics for $675 (this example being for a B5 2.8)

yes a universal cat converter is $90, much cheaper route to go.

Im saying that the only cheap way to go is universal cats, no down pipes for the 3.0L are cheap.
If you've never seen the 3.0L down pipes either then you don't quite know what i mean, you almost have to remove the subframe and half the transmission to get bothcats out.

so, unlike the 2.8, you can't just bolt/un-bolt the cat on a 3.0?

did they hide the cats in the engine, they should just be sitting there on the bottom

Breaking news update:

I erased theh codes using the OBDII scanner, went for smog check the first time, failed.

Drive it for about two more hours, strangely the code still haven't come back yet and I know it will probably come back soon, went there to smog again, and I PASSED IT.

The moral of the story is WTF?

Not even close to a 2.8L engine, you have to try and pull out a cat thats about 6 inches across through a opening thats only 2 inches wide, its not gonna happen. I can pull 2.8L cats out it 15 minutes and have them back in the car in about 20.
The 3.0L automatic takes me 3 hours on average with all the tools that you can think of.

Like i told you your cats are still ok just not 100%, but your O2 sensors are very sensitive so it will throw a CEL very easilly, you might wanna try putting non fouler O2 sensors in or spacers on the sensors fooling them (what i would do)
That or put in new cats for $3,000
