Alright, so I love my A4 and don't have anything negative to say other than it being a tad slow. Well, it's not slow but you all know what I mean when I say it. Anyway, when the right deal comes my way, I am looking to trade in for a late 90's S4. Here is my question, and this may change my mind completely, would you say maintenance for the S4 would be about the same OR would it be cost much much more? I would assume it would cost more but I can't calculate how much. I know I could chip it but I much rather love to say that I own not just an Audi.. I own an S4.

 

Looking ahead at $3+ per gallon prices ... the S4 would be quite costly to operate as well. Just my 0.02 ...

 

if you can afford a new s4 gas prices shouldnt be a concern...

well one person who knos alot bout the S4 is auditech79. but im pretty sure parts for the S4 are pretty expensive. wut do u have now the 1.8t or the 2.8?

 

I'm really not sure where you're going to find a late 90's S4, they made them with the B5 chassis in 2000-2002. earlier S4's used the B4 chassis.

maintenance is a b*tch on these things, ask auditech79. if you're at all in doubt as to whether or not you think you can afford the upkeep on a car like that, then stay away. there's twice as much sh*t to go wrong on the 2.7T as there is on the 1.8T.

Youbasically have to remove the motor for everything that goes wrong. Your mechanic will hate you.

 

but the urs4 is so freaking sweet the 20v i5 turbo is one of my mostfavorite engines

 

Throw the 20v I5 into a Coupe quattro and you'll have one of my favorites.

i wanted to trade for an 04/05 s4 but i couldnt get good $ for mine...

plus i saw a few guys Screen Names, like 10mpgS4... i posted about it and v8 s4s seemed to get 20mpg at best if u set the cruise at 70mph.. people who actually drove their cars got low teens....

 

Welcome to the club. If you think maintenance is expensive on a4 wait till you get the S4. Then theres insurance.
