hey guys-

I have an issue that I can't solve, and I'm looking for solution ideas.

It started this week, the first day it rained... My car when cold, just suddenly lost all power. The car was still 'on', just the engine had no ignition. I'm not sure if it is a lack of spark, or a lack of fuel, but it's obviously one of the two. It's intermittent, and happens only when A) the engine is cold and B) it's been raining since the problem started.

If it fails to start, I can crank it a few times, and after maybe 8 or 10 tries of ignition off, turn key, crank, off, on, crank, etc... it finally works.

If i'm driving and suddenly it just shuts off, i can usually turn it off and on, and try to bump start it until i come to a stop, and then do the abovementioned cranking method til it starts.

Another thing is that the ecu doesnt idle properly, it idles like it did when I put the new ecu in, and it was adapting the fuel trims and all that... so I'm thinking that the ecu might get reset when this happens (electrical problem?)

I was at my local dealership and they just told me i had a recall on my ingition switch. I have a 97 1.8T Quattro. Maybe that might have something to o with it
