im also doing my timing belt today
ok , i went and bought all the parts from the dealer except the water pump and the accessory belt, im ******* mad at myself for not getting it but its too late now, i think i read somewhere that u can change the pump without taking off the belt is that true?
woah woah woah, ecksman, what year is your car? if you have a 00+ you'll be ok...if not, you NEED to replace your water pump with your tb, or you WILL be doing the whole job over again when the water pump fails.
Actually, it was the early B5 that were the problem. The timing belt tensioner, not the belt would fail. Howver,k if there is no ensoin on the belt, it would slip, timing off, end of engine.
Still, I get worried past 80K miles, and I found that I was losing sleep wondering when it might go.
My previous toyota was a non-interference engine. I went over 200K miles on my second belt before I got rid of the car at 320K miles.
