im also doing my timing belt today

Default im also doing my timing belt today

ok , i went and bought all the parts from the dealer except the water pump and the accessory belt, im ******* mad at myself for not getting it but its too late now, i think i read somewhere that u can change the pump without taking off the belt is that true?

False, the belt has a sprocket on the water pump iirc

woah woah woah, ecksman, what year is your car? if you have a 00+ you'll be ok...if not, you NEED to replace your water pump with your tb, or you WILL be doing the whole job over again when the water pump fails.

My 2001 has the timing belt drive the water pump.

ooops, my bad...again.

if you DON'T have a 00+, you'll be ok. the older models are external. i believe in 2000 they changed it

is it the same deal for a B6 timing belt as a B5?...replace after around 60-70k?

Actually, it was the early B5 that were the problem. The timing belt tensioner, not the belt would fail. Howver,k if there is no ensoin on the belt, it would slip, timing off, end of engine.

Still, I get worried past 80K miles, and I found that I was losing sleep wondering when it might go.

My previous toyota was a non-interference engine. I went over 200K miles on my second belt before I got rid of the car at 320K miles.
