is it better to keep my stock air box with a K&N or run a aftermarket intake.

Neither will give you any gain the K & N will most likley do worse damage than good

depends on your engine type. most cai for 1.8 t's have the filter sitting right over the turbo/cat. this is bad lol. find one with good placement and you will see gains otherwise no, you will see losses.

I have a k&n drop in and i modified the stock air box, it will outflow and keep air cooler than aftermarket ones.

i have the 2.8 and with the k & n i have felt a slight increase in power. Maybe becasue my last filter was damn near black

if you have a K04 you will see tremendous power gains from an open air filter. such as a HKS or a EVOm

Not to step on anyone's toes, but I definitely felt a difference after I installed the EVO CAI in conjuction with a new exhaust system. I personally think it was worth it, but that's just my .02
