Has anyone on this forum ever had or heard of having a 1.8t engine built? I know the silly ricers[:'(] do it all the time, but ive never myself heard of an audi with a built motor...[sm=headbang.gif]

 

What exactly do you mean by built motor? I'm assuming you mean having the internals upgraded to stronger or lightweight metals. Which isn't silly at all, its very necessary if your running a huge turbo and plenty of boost. 1.8Ts making over 350hp usually have the internals rebuilt to handle all that compression.

 

Ya, i figured so much. Its just that the only car ive ever worked on for performance our 68 mustang 289. For 2 grand, thr horsepower goes from 210 to 350 just from a cam, valve springs, aluminum head, and carborator.

 

The old addage theres no replacement for displacement really is true. Its much easier to get 350hp out of 5 liters than it is to get the same power out of 1.8

 

That's why there's forced induction

but is relative because if you force induced a bigger motor, you'll get bigger power too...even outta those 60s technology GM V8s.

 

Ya, well it all comes down to when boosting a 2.5L engin to 14.7 PSI, you can have the saim amount of air and fuel as a naturally asperated 5.0L car, but still less power because even though there is the same amount of air and fuel (almost that is), there is still mroe serfice area in the 5L

And when i was thinking of getting my motor built (or waiting till i blow it and built it), i was thinking of things like valve springs, cams, pistons, stuff like that. I cant get high compression rings/pistons because i ahve a turbo (forced induction and high compression dont get along. my friend baught a nice turbo acura, but the previous owner had the engine built with 11.5:1 compression then put the turbo on. Lets just say it smokes more than iraq when sadam burned the oil)
