Default issue with cruise control?

ok I did do a search on this topic, and nothing in the first 2 pages answered my question. so please don't jump on me with the "use the search noob!" stuff!

I've had my 99.5 for a couple weeks now, and I've noticed that the cruise control does something funky once in a while. sometimes when I push the button to set the speed, nothing happens. when it happens, I usually can't set the speed for a few minutes, which is weird. after a few minutes, I set the speed and it's fine.

has anyone else had this issue with their B5? is the cruise switch a common item on these cars? thanks in advance guys.

I noticed mine doing the same thing the other night, but got it to work eventually.

It is a common problem, it is the cruise control switch.

Find a new switch and replace it. People pay to havethings done they can do themselves if they had a little confidence.

oh I will do it myself if I have to replace the switch, rest assured. what I meant was, am I going to have to go to the stealer to purchase the new switch? any idea how much they go for? and one more question, is there a DIY you know of for it, either on this site or on 'zine?

I don't pay to have anything done unless I know for a fact I can't do it myself.

yes yes....my cruise isn't working properly either. i was thinking some contact cleaner sprayed up in the stalk might help, because sometimes the cruise will work....but most of the time it doesn't.
is the switch right there in the end of the stalk?

mine appears to be getting worse.

today it would hardly work at all, I could only get it to come on once. and a new development has taken place, it won't accelerate the car when I try to. when I pull the slider to the left to accelerate with the cruise, it cancels it.

anyone know how much a new cruise control switch costs? would it mean replacing the entire stalk? and how difficult is it to do?
